About
The Institute for Liberal Arts & Sciences (ILAS) is an interdisciplinary institute that conducts research and teaching beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. We draw on a wide range of topics and methodological approaches and place particular emphasis on transdisciplinary collaboration in research as well as the development of an interdisciplinary Liberal Arts & Sciences degree program at the University of Hamburg.
The Institute’s focus areas include, among others, the cultures of knowledge, the history of science, and the medical and health humanities as well as imagination and transformation under digital conditions. Our research and teaching engage with contemporary issues from multiple perspectives, while situating them within their historical depth and broader societal contexts.
In addition, the Institute warmly welcomes visiting scholars (DAAD, DFG).
