There are a number of funding options for foreign students, graduates and postdocs. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines for 24 months for foreign students. Applicants must be enrolled at Hamburg university. The scholarship covers expenses during the M.A. program in Jewish Philosophy and Religion and a study semester abroad.
Graduates who wish to enroll in the Master's program can also apply for party- or union-based scholarships for foreign students offered by Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Friedrich Naumann Foundation, Heinrich Böll Foundation, Konrad Adenauer Foundation or Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. These scholarships would also support a study semester in Israel.
Students who wish to study one semester abroad should consult with the student counselling at an early stage of the Master's program.
Hebrew language courses: Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe offers scholarships for intensive Hebrew (and Yiddish) programs. Applications must be sent directly to the participating institution. You can find a list of institutions participating here.
PhD students can apply for short-term research grants. DAAD offers "Research Grants - Short Term" for six months covering traveling and living expenses. If you wish to stay longer at the Institute, the DAAD offers research grants for Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees. Also intensive German language courses can be funded (DAAD Intensive Language Courses offered in Germany for Foreign Students and Graduates).
Students interested may either search for these scholarship formats online or use the data base provided by the DAAD. You can modify your search with key words that apply best for you.
